In Loving Memory of Crystal Dorrell Heard May 22, 1966 – May 25, 2026
With heavy hearts, yet deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we celebrate the life and legacy of Crystal Dorrell Heard, who peacefully departed this life on May 25, 2026, at the age of 60.
Born on May 22, 1966, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Crystal was a light in the lives of so many. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, caring sister, foster mother, aunt, cousin, and loyal friend. Crystal carried a spirit that could comfort you, correct you, pray for you, laugh with you, and feed you all in the same breath. To know her was truly to love her.
Crystal leaves to forever cherish her memory her beloved husband, John Heard; her loving children, Jonathan, Jonisha, and Jonnel; her loving siblings, Gregory, Wanda, and Joseph; and her adored grandchildren, Jonnel Jr., Ashiyah, Amari, Tihaj, Penelope, Marlee, Iyanna, Jaden, Zahiya, Zahmier, Saahir, Aylah, Junior, Nassah, and Asaad.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae; her sister, Vanessa; her brothers, George and Niam; her biological father, Joseph; her beloved daddy, Lawrence; her grandson, Messiah; and her beloved pastor, Ivan B. Hewitt.
Crystal earned her GED through Job Corps and began her career working as a Certified Nursing Assistant before following in her mother's footsteps into behavioral health care. She dedicated many years to caring for mentally ill and disabled individuals with patience, compassion, dignity, and love. Caring for people was never just a job to Crystal—it was simply who she was.
And if you knew Crystal, you knew her heart had no limits. She was a mother to far more than just her own children. She opened her home and heart as a foster mother and lovingly embraced her children's friends as if they were her own. Her nieces and nephews knew without a doubt that "Aunt Crystal" was going to show up, stand up, and step in whenever needed.
Crystal had a giving spirit that could not be measured. She would give you the shirt off her back, her last dollar, a hot meal, a place to stay, or words of encouragement exactly when you needed them most. She had a way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. No matter what she was facing, she always found a way to pour into others.
She was baptized at Thankful Baptist Church under the leadership of her beloved pastor, Ivan B. Hewitt, and carried her faith with her throughout her life.
Crystal loved life, laughter, music, family gatherings, and celebrating the people she loved. She knew how to throw a party and bring people together. Whether it was dancing, cooking, joking, or simply sitting around talking for hours, Crystal made ordinary moments feel special. Her energy filled every room she entered, and her love left lasting impressions on everyone blessed enough to know her.
Crystal also took great pride in her appearance and had an unmistakable sense of style. She loved dressing up, putting together a beautiful outfit, and making sure she looked her best wherever she went. She enjoyed getting her hair done and was known for always having her nails done. Crystal believed in carrying herself with confidence, grace, and class, and she did so effortlessly. Whether she was attending church, celebrating with family, or simply running errands, she brought her own special flair and elegance to every occasion. If you saw Crystal coming, you could be sure her hair was done, her nails were polished, and she was going to look good doing whatever she came to do.
Above all else, Crystal loved her family fiercely. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and caregiver were roles she carried with pride and purpose. The love, wisdom, strength, and joy she poured into others will continue living on through every life she touched.
Though our hearts are broken by her absence, we rejoice in the blessing of having experienced her love. Her laughter will echo in our memories, her lessons will guide us, and her spirit will remain with us always.
A life so full of love can never truly be lost. Though she is no longer with us in body, her love remains woven into the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy will continue through her family, her friends, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness, generosity, faith, and unwavering love.
As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a remarkable life—one filled with love, laughter, resilience, compassion, and unforgettable memories. Crystal's light will continue to shine through all who carry her memory forward.
