Dorthy Jean Bowie were affectionately known by close friends and family members as “Sweet Momma” she were born on February 20, 1939 to the late Annie Bell Sanders and James Artist in Smithfield , NC. She entered into eternal rest on April 30, 2019.

Dorthy Jean completed her educated in the Philadelphia public school system. She later became a certified Nursing Assistant Home Health Care service provider graduating from Temple University.

Dorthy Jean received Christ at an early age. She were baptized at The Lilly of the Valley Baptist Church located in Johnston County, Smithfield, NC.

Dorthy Jean enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved talking on the phone with family and friends. Dorthy Jean enjoyed good music and a great party. She could dance like a pro. She loved playing the piano and loved meeting new people. In later years, Dorthy Jean enjoyed the Political arena. Talking Politics were a great hobby of Dorthy Jean. She worked with her younger sister Ernestine Kennedy of Philadelphia, PA on many Democratic campaigns. They enjoyed working together and talking politics at great length.

Dorothy Jean were preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and one sister one niece and one newphew: Annie Bell Sanders and James Artist, husband: Earl Bowie, son: Steven Anthony Bowie and one sister: Janice Smith of Alexandria, Virginia one niece Keisha Coldwell of Baltimore, Maryland and one nephew Jerry Coldwell of Alexandria, Virginia

Dorthy Jean leaves to cherish her loving memories; Two Grand-daughters Victoria Floyd and Keisha Washington, Seven Grandchildren; Flatasia, Wesley, Christopher, Dynesha, Desiree, Jarmilla and Victory. Seven Great-Grandchildren; Sincere, Aquaya, Jermaine, Jamir, Aiden, Marc and Jaiden all of Philadelphia, PA. Six Siblings; Ernestine Kennedy, Margie Ann Avery of Smithfield, NC, Phyllis Smith, Denise Dorsett, George Albert Curie of Oxen Hills, Maryland, James Dorsett of Smithfield , NC Two Brother-In-Laws John L. Kennedy and Robert Avery of Smithfield, NC and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
