Edna Green

Edna Mae Green was the first-born child of Edna Mae Payne and George Evans Payne of Philadelphia, PA. Edna was educated in Philadelphia School System. AT the age of thirteen she met the love of her life William Green. On August 25th, 1956, they were united in marriage . From this union they had three daughters. In August of 1963 the family moved to North Philly on the 2600 of North 33rd street. Midgie, Ms. Midge, Grandma or Ms. Green as she was affectionally known as was mother to many of the neighbors in the neighborhood. Edna (Midge) doors was always open to others, if you needed food, a place to stay, clothes, money, she was always there to help. Midge loved to cook. She would feed everybody. They loved her deep-dish apple pies, deep-dish sweet potato pies, spaghetti and meatballs, and her specialty hamburger surprise.

She lived a good life, didn’t have to work a regular nine to five job. Her job was to take care of the home as a housewife and mother. Midge would take care of others that was sick, whether they were family, friends, or neighbors.

Midge loved shopping, cooking, casino, playing cards, and family gatherings. Midge loved being with her family and partying with family.

Midge has been sick for a while. She departed this life on Saturday, February 22, 2020. She leaves to mourn her husband, William Green (Willie-T) of 64 and a half years of marriage, three daughters: Sandra Drayton, Doreen Ford (Larry) and Carol Green; six sisters: Cynthia who preceded her in death, Joanie, Diane, Judith, Marlene, and Denise; three brothers: Ulysses, James, and Darrell, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grand, ten brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, special friends, The Golden Girls: Bertha Prosser, Clara Wiley, and Diane McGrier.
