Glen Edward Scudder was born in Frankfurt, Germany on July 7, 1957 to parents Edward Scudder and Pauline Lane. Since his father was in the military, the family spent the next two years in Germany before returning to the United States and their hometown of Paterson, New Jersey.
Born 21 inches long, Glen aka "SCUD" stood out in the crowd the moment he was born. This was true even among the extended family of kids he grew up with at the Christopher Columbus Projects (CCP) in Paterson. By the time he entered elementary school, he was well on his way to reaching his ultimate height of 6 feet, 8 inches. As you would expect, he naturally gravitated to playing basketball, first on neighborhood teams and then in high school. High school brought with it more acclaim. His basketball skills earned him a scholarship to the competitive Paterson Catholic High School. Known as the Cougars, Paterson Catholic had a very strong athletic program, capturing many league and state titles during the four years Glen attended. He would always say that he enjoyed his time there, and that the Sisters loved him, but he could never make it on time for mass services which occurred 3 times a day. After high school, Glen attended Corning Community College in upstate New York. He continued to play basketball while majoring in Art Design.
As a young adult, Glen worked as a free-lance model for some of Paterson's local up-and-coming clothing designers. The modeling gig worked out well, since it enabled him to obtain tailor-made, one-of-a-kind outfits for free or at very little cost. He joined a modeling troup that traveled and performed fashion shows throughout the tri-state area of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. He also worked at North Jersey Developmental Center, Recreation Department, caring for developmentally disabled children and adults.
Glen soon married and welcomed his first born, Glenda Itia Scudder. Several years later, Glen left Paterson and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Once in Pennsylvania, Glen became a follower of the Islamic Faith, adopting the name Qadir. After divorcing his first wife, he entered into an Islamic union and welcomed his second child, Mustafa Qadir Scudder. In 2011, single again, Glen met Karen Bryant while working at Volunteers of America Delaware Valley (VOADV). With respect, love and commitment to each other the couple married in January 2019. He continued to work at VOADV as well as Resources for Human Development (RHD), PA until his failing health would no longer allow him.
Glen joined Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church and accepted his Lord God through baptism in 2018. After a long fight with cancer, he surrendered his physical body and accepted his heavenly wings on April 28, 2019. He is predeceased by his mother, Pauline Boone; father, Edward Scudder; sister, Charlene Scudder; grandmother, Charlotte Lane; grandfather, Paul Lane; and uncle, Wilbert Lane.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a wife, Karen Bryant-Scudder (Eric and Khalia Gilliam) of Philadelphia, PA; daughter, Glenda Itia Scudder of Charlotte, NC; a son, Mustafa Qadir Scudder of Philadelphia, PA; four sisters, Lisa Baccus (Johnnie) of Washington, DC; Dorian Leslie (Joyce) of Fremont, CA; Anita Faye Scudder-Cohen of Atlanta, Georgia; and Stephanie Johnson (Timothy) of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers Dwayne Scudder (Vera) of Irmo, South Carolina, and Teren Scudder (Britnee) of Hackensack, NJ; two grandsons, Gregory and Jacxon Reddick of Charlotte, NC; his Masonic Brothers (Lone-Star#1 AF & AM Scottish Rite Philadelphia, PA), as well as a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members and good friends.
