Harvey Allen was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 12, 1952, to the late Winnie and Irvin Allen and deceased on March 9, 2020. He met his beloved Gwendolyn L. Stallings (Gwennie) in their North Philadelphia neighborhood while in high school. Approximately five years later they were married on September 15, 1974 at the King Solomon Baptist Church. Their love for each other was unceasing and continued to grow stronger and deeper during their relationship of 46 years. Harvey and Gwennie were close to their families and shared an interest in watching sports. Harvey was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.
Harvey received his K-12 education in the Philadelphia School District. He graduated from Mastbaum High School in June 1970. He received his college education at Millersville University majoring in English and made a number of lifetime friends. After college Harvey was employed in various accounting roles for the School District of Philadelphia for 30+ years. He was a member of the Triumph Baptist Church where he later served as an administrator of its Credit Union until he retired because of the decline of his health.
Harvey was a very forthright person with a mind of his own. Yet he had a warm sense of humor and liked to tease family members and friends. He possessed the admirable passion of staying closely bonded with his mother until her passing as well as with his siblings and their children. In addition to watching sports, Harvey’s other hobbies were avid Bible study, barbequing, his mother’s and his sister Diane’s cooking, and playing the lottery.
He leaves to cherish many memories: the love of his life--Gwendolyn Allen; his siblings--Lula Pearl Pearson, Dr. Melvin Allen, Diane Wright, Theresa Allen and Dennis Allen. He was predeceased by younger siblings--Edward Allen, Jonathan Allen, Benjamin Allen and Nathan Allen; and older siblings-- Loretta Ledbetter, Margie Allen, Viola Sanders, Curtis Jarvis, Louise Brookins and Irvin “Richard” Allen; God Children--Nathan Jamal Allen, Cher Allen, Todd Allen, Carlos Johnson; Sisters in Law—Sharyn and Serella Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
