James Powell Sr.

November 20, 1970 — October 15, 2021

James Anthony Powell Sr. entered this life on November 20, 1970 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes De., and departed this life to gain his eternal wings on October 15, 2021 at Bayhealth Dover Campus. Anthony (as he was called by most) received his early education at Milton Elementary, Milton Middle, and Milton Jr. High School. Anthony went on to graduate with the class of 1985 at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes De.

After graduation Anthony pursued a career in Law Enforcement; graduating from the Delaware State Police Training Academy in July of 1996. He also obtained an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice at the Delaware Technical Community College. For almost a decade he had an eyewitness account of the poverty, crime, and danger of the streets as a Police Officer. As a Law Enforcement Agent; Anthony cultivated relationships with the community, leaders, governmental officials and private sector liaisons to create programs that combat crime through education, mentorships, and job training.

He was a huge believer in active listening to the voice of the people. Anthony successfully spearheaded the road markings and lighting campaign adding safety measures to the Coverdale Crossroads community. With the economic challenges of the community top on his list; he developed classes gleaning from his 15 year career as a Life Insurance Agent, in order to educate residents on how to properly protect their families in the event of death. As a multifaceted executive leader, Anthony was sought out for his ability to energize teams to obtain high-performance results.

Anthony at the time of his passing, was the director of Sales for the Assurance Group; where he managed a multi-State licensed sales force of 200 agents. He was also extremely conscience of the adverse effects of global warming. He was an advocate of renewable energy. For the past 6 years he has also been a Solar consultant.

Anthony began his music ministry at the tender age of 12 years old back in 1982. Anthony's music ministry was cultivated under the Pastoralship of his great Aunt "Pastor Viola Butts" at the Mt. Sanai Holy Mission in Bridgeville De. He served faithfully there until Pastor Butts went on to be with the Lord in 1998. Mt. Sanai Holy Mission became "Watch God Move Christian Center" as Anthony's Mother, Pastor Patricia Powell became the Pastor. Anthony continued to work faithfully under his Mother's leadership. He was the Vice President and Co Founder of the WGM Outreach Ministries, Inc. In this role he served as analytic critical thinker; leading the team by providing strategic community developmental initiatives. As busy as his life was; he yet found time to faithfully assist in feeding the community every Thanksgiving; passing out dinners to the homeless and families in need. Anthony intuitively saw the threads of opportunities and thrived in the role.

He was also the creator of one of WGM's most requested programs. "The Brother's that Care". This program gave men a safe place to fellowship and share; also encouraging them to reclaim their lives. After a successful career in many fields; Anthony lended his time, efforts, and talents to WGM Outreach Ministries to pour into the next generation of leaders and to empower them to serve with honor, integrity and respect.

Anthony served alongside his Mother; Pastor Patricia Powell until his recent passing. Anthony's music ministry spanned a total of 39 years.

Anthony was an extremely positive individual who was always willing to help those in need. He could always be found encouraging people to come to church and to use their unique gifts. He even taught some to play music. He was known especially for his infectious smile that could light up any room. One thing his family will long remember is that he wore that smile no matter what he may have been going through.

Anyone that knew him knew for certain that he loved and adored his Mother. She was (as he called her) His "Powell Girl" and he was Her "Powell Boy". He made sure she was well taken care of and was always careful to assist her whenever she needed him. Making sure she took vacations and short much needed getaways; even if he had to drive her there himself. He never allowed her to even open her car door if he was present. He Loved HER and SHE loved HIM; "Unconditionally". It was a bond between Mother and Son that only his passing could bring to a close.

And finally; there was absolutely no doubt concerning his love for his children. He loved and supported them in everything they attempted to do in life. Whatever the endeavor, the dream, or the goal he was right there pushing and advising and encouraging them to be the very best. He coached, he trained, he pushed. He was adamant about their future to the point where he made sure they went on to pursue college educations to set them up for success in life. He adored his children. And loved traveling with them, going to their games, and events, playing video games with them, laughing and making hilarious videos with them. His children were his world and his love for them was undeniable.

James Anthony Powell Sr. leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving Mother Pastor Patricia Powell of Bridgeville De. His remaining siblings Angela C. Wyatt of Georgetown, De., Pedro Antonio Powell of Lewes De., and his half Sister Cevon Maull of Lincoln, De.
