John Rainey

Life Story
John Earl Rainey was born in Mecklenburg ,VA on April 10, 1945 to
Joseph Rainey and Emma Jones. He departed this life on January 18,
2019. John was baptized at an early age of 16 at Straight Gates Holiness
Church.
John received his education in the Philadelphia School System
graduating from Ben Franklin High School.
John met and married Elizabeth G. Lorick and from this union two
children were born: Shawn and Kevin Rainey.
John was a retired City of Philadelphia worker.
Bubba, as he was affectionately called by family and friends. Hobbies
were listening to jazz, collecting African Art, archery and bicycling. He
was also known for wearing a variety of hats. His particular brand was
made by Kangol.
John was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Rainey, two aunts,
Mary Alice and Nancy, and two uncles, John and Alfred.
John leaves to cherish his memory: his wife , Elizabeth Rainey; mother,
Emma Rainey; daughters, Shawn LeGare, Towanda Chambers, Tinika
Smith and Candace Hand; daughter-in-law , Tia Rainey; sons, Kevin
Rainey, Brian Bronson, Gerald and Brandon Smith; brother, Ronnie
Rainey; brother-in-law, Darryl Watson; sisters, Margo Watson, and
Aynethia Rainey; sister-in-law, Pam Robbins; grandchildren, Angelo
Pettiford Jr., Che’von Rainey, Chavez LeGare, Tierra Johnson, Hakeem
Johnson, Jasmine Ellis, Verlinda Smith and Brandi Smith, Bishara,
Bronson, Pierce Bronson, Brandon Bronson, Bryce Bronso; seven great
grandchildren; Geraldine Smith in which he shared a special bond will
also miss John.; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
