Leonard Davis

April 2, 1949 — June 28, 2019

Leonard Davis, son of the late Estelle Davis and Curtis Davis was born on April 2,1949, in Philadelphia,PA. He received his education from the Philadelphia Public School System.

On October 11, 2008 Leonard married Ramona Harris and from that day forward, Mona often referred to Leonard as her “King”.

As a young man, Leonard worked in construction where he developed his handyman skills and became a “jack of all trades”. He could fix just about anything, build, trouble-shoot, and tackle small and large home repairs. His most memorable job was his maintenance position near 69th & Market Street where he met and knew many people. He garnered many smiles and laughs over the years as people engaged him in conversation, and in turn he earned the title of “Mayor of 69th Street”.

Leonard had an infectious personality and because of this, people gravitated to him. He was laid back and his humor was a form of optimism because he focused on pointing out the positivity even when he was going through turmoil. When Leonard laughed, it was unlike any other laugh. It was so distinct that if you were in a room and heard him laugh, you would know it was Leonard without ever seeing him.

Playing pool was one of Leonard’s favorite things to do and he was quite the shark! He also enjoyed watching boxing and loved dogs. The family called him the “original dog whisperer”. While he had not gone to church as often, over the last couple of years he enjoyed listening to gospel music as it brought him comfort and solace.

Eight siblings preceded him: Aleatha “Lee”Davis; Curlizer “Sonny” Davis; Russell “Brother”Davis; Alexander “Sweetie” Davis; Johnny “Tuga” Davis; Harvey Davis; Joseph “Joe” Davis;and Harold Davis. He is survived by 2 siters; Pauline Davis and Geraldine Davis. He has a whole host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and some might even say they were his favorite but that appears to be a continual debate!

Celebrating his life and legacy are: his wife: Ramona, one daughter, Betty Jeffcoat (BeBe); 3 sons, Kevin Davis, Leonard Davis Jr. & Sumartine’ Lloyd-Davis; 2 Step-daughters; Aminah Harris & Alisha Laws; two sisters: Geraldine and Pauline, 3 grandchildren; Courtney Burrell, Roschon Simpson & Sani’ Lloyd-Davis. He was known as pop to Jamella Ballard, granddaughter of Louvenia Davis (previous wife). He was also a care-taker for Eddie Johnson who was like a son for over 20 years and a host of inlaws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
