Lucille Beale

Mrs. Lucille Davis Beale (affectionately known as Nana), age 91 passed away at her home, Friday, July 27, 2018 in Philadelphia, PA.

The daughter of Mrs. Mollie Stafford Davis Credit, she was born in Rowland, North Carolina on March 8, 1927, the 5th child of 9.

Her family later moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina where she received her formal education from the Goldsboro City School System.

As a young adult, Lucille moved to Philadelphia, PA and that was home for her until her recent passing. She was responsible for many of her family members residing in Philadelphia.

Her philosophy of life to her children, family and friends, “Work Hard”, “Pay Your Tithes” (if you want to always have money in your hands) “Save, Save, Save”, “Invest Your Money”, “Get an Education” (she was a high-school graduate), “Own Your Home”, “Enjoy Life As You Go Along”, “Travel and Dress to the Hilt”, “Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say”, “Plow Through Regardless of the Situation”, “With The Lord’s Help, You Can Do Anything!” She lived her life this way.

She was a member of New Psalmist Baptist Church for many years where she served on various boards (Usher’s, Deaconess and Pastor’s Aide)

She later joined New Way Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. I.V. Johnson Sr. where she served as a faithful member until her health declined.

Lucille was employed as a machinist, working at Walter P. Miller’s Paper Box Co. in Philadelphia, PA and later at McLean’s Packaging Corp., until her retirement. Have you really ever thought about who was making all those boxes that you use? Well, Ms. Lucille made boxes.

Lucille was married to Harry Beale and from this union was born a son, Duerward Beale (Woody).

She was also the mother of Hattie Worrell (deceased), Marian Murray, Carolyn Johnson, and Sandra Phillips (deceased).

She was predeceased by her husband Harry Beale, mom, Mollie Stafford Davis Credit, her siblings Wilbert Stafford (twin to sister, Willie) twin brothers , Roy and Lee Davis, brother, Elbert Davis, Sister, Angel Davis and twin brother and sister, Jesse and Bessie Davis.

Her memory will be cherished by daughters Marian Murray (James), Faison, NC, Carolyn Johnson and son, Duerward Beale (Woody) both of Philadelphia, PA.

Grandchildren: Wanda and Alicia both of Clayton, NC, Tracey, Patrice, Tonyia, Moses (Sarita) and Nicole all of Philadelphia, PA, James (Jamila) Bowie, MD, and Jamar (Cherie) Roselle, NJ.

Great Grandchildren: Kevin, Kaitlyn Joshua, Savannah, Jowell of Philadelphia, PA, Sidney and Synai both of Roselle, NJ, Alexis and Alyson both of Clayton, NC, Jaila and Javon both of Bowie, MD.

Great-Great Grands all of Philadelphia, PA, Siniah, Kyerra,Kendra, Lyric and Londou

Sister: Willie Stafford Baker (twin sister to Wilbert), Dover, PA and a host of nieces, nephews family and friends.
