Maryann Elizabeth McKinney, daughter of the late Viola Stratton and Edward Wright, was born on February 8, 1935, in Bedford, Virginia. She passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the age of 91.
She received her formal education in the Virginia public school system. After graduating from high school, Maryann moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to pursue her career. From a young age, she developed a passion for cooking and began her career in the restaurant industry.
Maryann met and married the late Arthur McKinney, and to this union, they raised six children. Family was very important to her, and she cherished traveling and spending time with her loved ones.
After raising her six children, Maryann chose to dedicate her life to nurturing others. She pursued a career as a childcare provider at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Known for her warm spirit and caring nature, she made a significant impact on the lives of the children in her care. She enjoyed interacting with military families and often shared stories about her experiences.
During the holidays and family gatherings, Maryann ensured that everyone felt welcome by preparing delicious meals for family and friends. She was deeply loved and will be remembered by her family as a caring, generous, and beautiful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Maryann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur McKinney, her daughter, Jacqueline Jones, and her grandson, Darren McKinney.
She leaves to mourn her children: Alphonso Lee, Darrell McKinney (Lisa), Vonda Davis (Levi Jr), Pamela McKinney, and Dorrine McKinney; her grandchildren: Alex Lee, Charmagne McKinney, Darrell McKinney Jr (Mercedes), Lisa McKinney, Marjay McKinney, Levi Davis III, Terrell Davis, Terrence Davis, Jack Gibson III, and Kennedy Willis; and her great-grandchildren: Jayden Vilayphanh, Emir McKinney, Ta'Leah McQueen, Aylen McKinney, Anaya McKinney, Alana McKinney, Ava McKinney, and Darrell McKinney III.
