Sadie Jones

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8
Sadie Jones was born October 10, 1922 in Sylvania, Georgia, the
youngest of eight children to the late John Young, Sr. and Bell Gordon
Young. Four brothers, John, Percy, George, Amos and three sisters, Rosa
Lee, Willie Jane, & Ollie preceded her in death along with her daughter,
Betty Lee Murphy.
Sadie was educated in the public school system of Sylvania, Georgia. She
relocated to Bronx, New York in 1956 where she worked as a seamstress for
many years. She later joined Mt. Herman Baptist Church which became her
spiritual haven and she served admirably on the choir.
Sadie was very strong, resilient, independent and a great cook. She could
cook just about anything you desired. Sadie delighted in preparing
down-home southern meals for her family and all who stopped in to
fellowship. She had a love for family and would often travel to Philadelphia
to visit her three brothers John, Percy ; George.
Sadie was the beloved mother of one daughter, Betty, who was the love of
her life. She adored her to the point that they were inseparable. Wherever
you saw one, you saw the other.
In 2011, after the untimely death of her daughter, Sadie was brought to
Philadelphia to live with her niece, Mamie and was later transitioned to
Hillcrest Nursing Home until her health failed.
On Thursday, January 31, 2019, Sadie was called home to be with the
Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory: Niece & Caregiver, Mamie L.
Rainey, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
