William Cobb Sr

William David Cobb, Sr, affectionately known as “Bill”, the son of the late Ralph and Helen Cobb, was born November 23, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA. Bill passed away November 22,2018.

Bill was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, he attended Thomas Edison High School. William was a Private in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.

His career included: Bayuk Cigar Company, Nannette Manufacturing Company, Tastykake and was later self employed as a handyman.

In the 50’s, during the doo-wop era, Bill was part of the singing group “The Proud Ones”, along with best friends: Donald Trusty, Donald Huff and Hayward “Skeets” Matthews. Together, they performed at the Apollo Theatre and other venues throughout New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Bill was very organized, charming, outspoken, an avid painter, fisherman, and bicycling was his passion. His nickname was “Shaefer Bill” because of his love for beer. His favorite past time was gardening, and watching movies; especially old western movies. He was a Philadelphia Eagles fan, and his favorite song was “Ocean” by K. Jon of which he sung while in intensive care.

Bill married Blanche Cobb in August 1959 and from this union two sons: William Jr and Stephen Cobb were born. In a later relationship, his daughter, Lakeisha Johnson was born.

Bill was preceded in death by his siblings: Letitia, Ralph, Ruth, Naomi and Lillian.

Bill will be deeply missed by his children: William Jr (Phyllis), Stephen (Denise), Lakeisha (Nino) , siblings: Malcolm and Jennifer: Grandchildren, Teisha, William(Clay), Phillip, Victoria(Tori), Iyana, Stephen Anthony (Tony), Daisia and Jahleel, Great grandchildren: Kilee, Ammorah, Jael’ and a hosts of nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends. Special friends : Skeets, Arlene Johnson(AJ), Donnie, Constance and Nasir
