William F. Montgomery, Jr. (February 2, 1951 – December 26, 2020)
William Frederick Montgomery, Jr. was born February 2, 1951 to Georgia Mack and William Frederick Montgomery, Sr., who precedes him in death, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jr. or “Montgomery”, as he was affectionally known as, attended and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. Jr. later obtained careers working for SEPTA, The U.S. Mint, and Good Lad Apparel Manufacturer.
Jr. came from a musically inclined family and was singing and playing instruments since the age of 10. Jr. was a self-taught guitar player by the age of 15 and would freelance his musical talents playing for various gospel groups. Jr., along with three of his closest friends, also later established a group of their own.
Cooking was also Jr.’s passion as he was very meticulous about how he prepared his meals and loved to share in that joy of cooking with others. You could always catch Jr. manning the grill during our annual Dover Street Block Party, and he took pride in his culinary work of art.
Jr. was a very kind and humble man who loved his family dearly. His kind soul and gentle nature will be sorely missed. Jr. leaves to mourn his absence his son, Maurice Bigelow, sisters Grace Allison and Joyce Montgomery, his nieces Nicole Allison and Tamala Montgomery-Liu, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
